Rocking Experiment

In learning about the Arctic Ocean we decided to study the animals that live there. My sweet friends wanted to know how on earth they kept warm in freezing temperatures and swam in ice cold water. We discovered that animals who live in cold environments have an extra layer of fat called blubber. Of course we had to do an experiment to see just how BLUBBER really works. They were sooooo excited and fascinated. Everyone got to experience the power of that extra layer and  they thought it was super cool!

First I had them stick their hands in a bowl of ice water
to see what it would be like for us.

Then, they had to stick their hands inside of a glove
and into a Ziploc bag of lard(Crisco) which acted as our "BLUBBER"

They were shocked to find that they no longer felt the
temperature of the freezing water!
